On Friday, 27th August 2021, the Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM), organized a day long Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshop aimed at drilling human resource practioners on issues relating to recent changes in Malawi’s labour laws as well as employee engagement and life cycle.
The workshop which took place at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel, brought together 35 participants drawn from various companies and organizations across the country. The facilitators were Dr. Sunduzwayo Madise, a law expert and senior lecturer at the University of Malawi and Mr. Buxton Kayuni, an HR expert and Group Head of Human Resources for NICO Holdings plc.
Speaking after the workshop, IPMM President Godwin Ng’oma said he was very delighted that the workshop had achieved its objectives of providing participants with a platform to learn and interact with the facilitators as well as enhance professional networking. He further stated that IPMM has plans to hold some more workshops in the near future, especially using virtual platforms, so as to continue bridging the various professional gaps that IPMM members and HR practioners in general might be experiencing as they discharge their duties.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Gloria Msefula of Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) described the training as an eye opener on various HR issues that practioners grapple with at their work places.
Another participant, Chawanangwa Ng’ambi from the newly formed Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), hailed IPMM for organizing the CPD.“ I liked the workshop especially because it was interactive. The facilitators handled the sessions well and I liked the fact that we had enough time to ask questions and got responses on practical HR issues that we face in our work places. My only request to IPMM leadership is that we need more of such workshops,’’ he said.
